Most of the times, they are prescribed for chronic pain and back pain. Even if the opioids are effective in treating this condition, they can pose different health risks. Opioids are known to cause addiction. They tend to addict the users and the user will need more of the opioid to relief the pain. In the long term, use of the pain killer will not help and the user can experience more pains.

In case you are taking opioids, it is advisable not to take them for more than a week. Continued use can result in respiratory failure and death. In case you have been taking them for so long , make sure that you seek medical help immediately. You can even substitute it with other forms of relief such as exercise and physiotherapy which are as just as effective as these.
